A Distant Star

Walking home one night from working hard all day,
with your mind filled with ideas that won't go away.
Which echo like voices from somewhere in the dark,
responses from many a silent and thoughtful remark.
Spoken by spirits with names that have been forgotten,
whose deeds changed the world upon paths untrodden.
As they sought desire even though the world disdained,
thinking them heretics with their spirits never chained
Only dreamers that believed there's a better way,
for man to grow beyond darkness into light of day.
Rising above the animosity brought about by hate,
to find destiny that provides a much different fate.
As the universe opens wide into which you're carried,
with unexplored realms of life and mysteries varied.
Away from places where destruction is seen to exist,
and differences once causing strife are easily dismissed.
Left behind for adventures which before were unimagined,
simply because your eyes remained too long unopened.
Though now you see with clarity the stars on high,
as wings are spread out and into the future to fly.
