A need for kindness

When children cry because life denies them hope,

unable to understand why their parents can't cope.

Forced by necessity to do what they must for survival,

things which would otherwise be considered trivial.

Faced with constant peril from people on the street,

whose eyes are hidden by dark glasses acting sweet.

Although innocent in appearance ever to be trusted,

beneath their demeanor lies a heart cold and encrusted.

Yet existing in silent shadows where they do fear,

a kind heart waits for those whom would dare endear.

Seeking respite from the onslaught of daily routine,

te regain composure and start again fresh and clean.

Just because the world has hate found in great abundance,

it doesn't mean we have to face each day with reluctance.

Stand strong against the wind despite feelings inside,

and keep a smile in your heart by which you do abide.
